from our roving reporter

Sorry Kath, our roving reporter, for not publishing this before - it got held up in the editing room!!!! Many thanks for thinking of us and for sending us the photo of Sri Lankan patchwork - beautiful xx your next project?? xx

Easter week . . .

Hola Ladies – I hope that you are having a lovely Easter Sunday and that the chocolate is not too tempting??!!
Sandy was heading off to Italy for the Easter weekend - she took with her the beautiful, woven, crocheted throw as a gift for her future inlaws  who she was going to meet for the first time - hope that you are having a lovely time Sandy.

Last Tuesday was a busy day for most, as you will see from Yvonne’s photographs – thanks for taking them – I forgot my camera!! oops!! Some of the photos taken are to go on individual members pages when Rachael has settled back in to the Spanish way of life – and I know from experience that that can take some time! I’ll leave a CD of the photos in the ‘black bag’ so that, when Rachael and Frank are ready, they can add the photos to the web page.

And so, to the meeting – nineteen of us worked on a variety of individual projects. Our industrious Pam brought her completed cushion covers, table runner and completed Mystery Quilt (see photos above) to show us – the projects are stunning as you will see from the photos. The photo below shows the detail of Pam's cushion where she used a special ruler for cutting - I feel a demo coming on Pam??!! or maybe a class? x

Helen Hulm also brought her completed Mystery Quilt – another stunning piece of work heading to the UK! Not mine though - mine remains unfiniahed!! But I have let Eloise take it home so that she can construct hers!! A good excuse!! xx

Jacqueline and Carole G worked on their large quilts whilst Carol C, Gwen and myself were able to progress our individual projects as shown in the photographs below.

And finally, apologies to anyone I haven't included and also if I have made any mistakes!! The blogger site has played me up all afternoon!!! It has controlled me, rather than me controlling it!!! Resorting to eating some chocolate now!!! Enjoy your stitching and I'll see you all on Tuesday - sale day, Helen. xx

main blog on its way!

Hi Ladies, just in case you are signing in and wondering where the blog is!! Well it is on its way but it has been an even busier week than usual for me!! The blog for 26/3 will be here by the end of Sunday!! Watch this space!!! Helen

Completer/finishers substantially progress!!

Hi ladies, what a wet day it was!! The view from the window showed the muddy waters surging down the, not so dry, river bed!!! Luckily we were inside keeping dry and fairly warm. The fires do make a big difference.
It was a relatively quiet meeting with nineteen members braving the wet conditions: nineteen on the nineteenth!!!
Some sewers got their heads down and achieved loads - well done Jill W and Pam - Jill quilting her reconstructed Mystery Quilt (yes, Rachel, reconstructed Mystery Quilt!!) and Pam making two cushion covers (yes! two!) in which she used a special cutting ruler/stencil to great effect, a bigger project than the book marks she made for Christmas!!  No photo of the cushion covers as they needed pressing and it was the end of the meeting - a good photo of the two industrious ladies though!!

Jill W and Pam - two industrious ladies

Other ladies were sewing, stitching, knitting and crocheting. Carol was constructing her Scrappy Illusion quilt after having decided to make it bigger for her son and grandchildren to snuggle under - it is no longer a lap quilt but the size of a double bed quilt! It is coming together really well, well done Carol.

Carol working on her ggrroowwwwwing quilt!

Jacqueline has begun to assemble her first quilt - quite rightly she is thrilled - she can really see what her work is going to look like when it is quilted and completed.

completion nears for Jacqueline

Christine, who is running the Bargello workshops on 2nd and 9th April, brought samples of the effects that can be achieved through using the technique - amazing, beautiful . . .

. . . don't they make you want to have a go?

Well, coming to the end of this blog - check, check and recheck is now my motto as Jill W and Pam were almost described as 'illustrious' instead of 'industrious'!!! It would have been in the best possible sense of the word!! Hasta luego, Helen xx

Hi Ladies, here are the photos showing how hard you all worked!! You must all have been shattered when you went home - you especially Jan xx well done!

heads down!!!

concentration!!

more heads down!!

busy! busy!

a further update

Hi all, it is me, Helen, trying to blog on behalf of Rachel!!! - a new experience for me!! Tuesday seemed to be a quiet day, possibly because twelve members were engrossed in Jan's class! At the other, quiet end of the room (!!!) eleven of us concentrated on our own activities - some getting more done than others!!!
A warm welcome back, Shirley.

Rozanne's owl doorstops

It was interesting to hear about the 'Knitting for Africa' initiative from Sue Stead and Shirley - I'll be having a look on the website later. I understand that Sheila collects the knitted garments and takes them to somewhere that they are collected from. The photograph is of the items that Sue has knitted for the children - any scraps of wool can be used. Talking of scraps! Rozanne shared her owl doorstops with us - she is going to run a workshop on making the doorstops on Tuesday April 16th - the doorstops are made from scraps!! Nothing goes to waste, does it Jan?!!

Jan in action

Jan's sewing machine workshop went down really well and ladies were amazed at what their machines could do!! It reminded that I,too, have the book 'Encyclopedia of Sewing Machine Techniques' by Nancy Bednar & JoAnn Pugh-Gannon - I've just got it off the shelf and dusted it!!! 'Note to oneself' - read the books I have!! On that note I will attempt to attach/insert the photos but if I'm unsuccessful I'll pop them in separately!! See you all Tuesday, Helen!!
PS A mixture of success and not!! I'll put other photos in a separate blog!! Adios!!

No blog update.........

Hi everyone.  I'm just signing in to say I'm sorry if you have been disppointed at not finding the regular update here after our weekly meeting.  Unexpectedly, I wasn't able to attend this week's meeting and am now on a three week visit to the UK.  Helen took some photographs of  Jan's workshop and other things going on and we are hoping to bring you an update or two before I return in the second week of April, when "normal service" will be resumed, so please come back again in a few days to see if we have succeeded!  In the meantime, happy stitching.
